Introduction
Spreading south of the Alaska Range, west of the Canadian border, and east of the MatSu valleys, this varied region features easy access to great destinations. The mountain-ringed Copper River Basin, WrangellSt. Elias National Park and Preserve, and the coastal delights of Prince William Sound are the main areas of visitor activity. Vehicle travelers are well served by a five-legged road system roughly centered in Glenallen. Regular A.M.H.S. ferries ply the waters of Prince William Sound, connecting to highways at Valdez and Whittier, with Cordova, Seward, and the Southwest as possible extensions.
